Georges River Council is seeking community comment on its proposal to adjust its existing local government area boundaries to incorporate parts of the Canterbury-Bankstown and Bayside Council areas.
The council is seeking boundary adjustments to include parts of Riverwood, Beverly Hills and Narwee, between the Georges River Council LGA and Watson Electoral Division boundary lines, by making use of the M5 motorway which lies on the Watson boundary line and the natural boundary of Salt Pan Creek.
The proposal recognises that the M5 motorway creates a hard physical barrier, which didn't exist when the original local government boundaries were established, a council spokesperson said.
The other proposed area is located east of the Georges River Council Local Government Area boundary, boundary, currently sitting within the Cook Electoral Division, bounded by President Avenue in the Bayside Local Government Area.
The amalgamation of this area would result in the northern part of the Federal Electoral Division of Cook being located within the Georges River Local Government Area. It would include Sans Souci, Ramsgate, Sandringham, Ramsgate Beach, and Dolls Point.
This would include the north-south sport and open spaces spine, and the Rockdale Wetlands Corridor which includes Scarborough Park, Scarborough Park North and Leo Smith Reserve.
"The proposal makes sense in terms of service efficiency opportunities for the promotion and use of important sport and recreation assets.
"The proposed changes follow logical boundaries, helping people easily identify with their local Council and benefit from its services," the council spokesperson said.
The council is seeking community opinion on the boundary adjustments.
