Aboriginal elder Brenden Moore will conduct bush Tucker Walks through Oatley Park as part of Georges River Council's inaugural In Good Taste festival in February.
In Good Taste is about connecting people to their local community through food and celebrating the different cultural backgrounds that make up Georges River.
Brenden hopes that the Bush Tucker Walks will also connect people to country through learning about how Aboriginal plants and how people use them.
Brenden is a Biripi man from Taree and a qualified horticulturist with a bachelor in Community and Social Development.
He is known for his work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities including the Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation.
For the past ten years he has been working with communities across NSW instructing them in bush tucker and its application in every area of life.
Brenden hopes that people taking part in the Bush Tucker Walks through Oatley Park will experience Aborignalal education and will discover the connection to country through plants, people and place.
"They will mainly experience the connection Aboringal people have with plants for tools, wellbeing, medicine and food," he said.
"I'll have artefacts such as tapping sticks, didgeridoo and kangaroo skin.
"I want people to take home an understanding of how people see Australia and gain a knowledge of Aboriginal plants. I hope the walks are inspiring, educational and enjoyable."
The Bush Tucker Walks are free and will be held at Oatley Park onSaturday, February 13 and 20 at 11am.
The walk takes an hour but there will also be extra time for questions and answers.
The walks are gentle and are aimed at people of all ages.
Georges River Council's inaugural In Good Taste festival is being held throughout February.
Other highlights include the Little Lunar night out which will feature traditional Asian flavours and entertainments to welcome in the Year of the Ox, from 5.30pm to 9pm, on Friday, February 19.
And the In Good Taste finale will be held as a park funfair style festival on Saturday, February 27.
