
A 39-year-old man from Oatley will appear in court today charged with multiple offences after a fatal trail bike crash in Sydney's south last week.
Police say just after 4am on Friday, January 29 2021, emergency services were called to Martin Place near The Strand, Mortdale, after reports of a trail bike crash.
Officers from St George Police Area Command attended and found an unregistered trail bike had crashed into a parked Mitsubishi Outlander.
Police say the rider, a 39-year-old man, and pillion passenger, a 27-year-old woman, were ejected from the bike, with the woman suffering serious injuries.
Both were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to St George Hospital, where the woman died on Monday, February 1 2021.
Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Following inquiries, the 39-year-old man was discharged from hospital on Thursday, February 4 2021, and arrested.
He was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death - drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), use an unregistered motor vehicle on the road, an unlicensed rider without helmet, ride with one passenger without a helmet, and not give particulars to police.
The Oatley man has been bail refused to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Friday, February 5 2021.
