In another week where the Dragons made some headlines, hooker Cameron McInnes said he will depart the club at season's end after agreeing to a multi-year deal at the Cronulla Sharks.
Whilst McInnes informed the club of his departure at the end of 2021 the Dragons confirmed they did enquire about signing Israel Folau, but that such discussions have ceased.
McInnes, the two-time Dragons Player of the Year Medallist has played 91 games with the club to date and said he wants to continue to captain the Dragons in his final season at the club.
He also revealed that new coach Anthony Griffin had given him no guarantees about the captaincy or his future.
General manager of football Ben Haran said the club was well aware throughout our discussions with Cameron and his management that he wanted his future sorted prior to the season starting.
"There's always a process to contractual negotiations, but with our club going through a significant transition it's fair to say that Cameron and the club were working on different timeframes.
"We understood why he wanted his future sorted immediately, which has since led to Cameron securing an opportunity elsewhere.
"Cameron is a quality player and person who has brought a lot to St George Illawarra since arriving in 2017, and we're looking forward to him again playing a huge role in his final season at the club."Haran said
McInnes said that throughout the process the club had been honest and open with him, and he respected that because the club had done a lot for him.
