The annual NSW Junior State Cup (12's-17s) was held in Coffs Harbour last week with an astounding 262 teams welcomed with pristine fields and perfect weather conditions.
2021 marked the 17th NSW Junior State Cup, a prestigious event that saw the best teams in the state go head-to-head for their Championship titles.
For the first time, this tournament ran over four days: from Thursday February 11 to Sunday February 14, 2021. This, along with spectator restrictions ensured that the event adheres to Australian Oztag's COVID Safety Plan and NSW Health protocol.
Over the course of the four days, Coffs Harbour welcomed over 4000 players and 8000 spectators -and as the rain set in on Saturday night, Tournament Director, Bill Harrigan made an early decision to delay Sunday's first game and revised the draw and new 20-minute game format.
The 15's-17's age groups took their games to a new level of brilliance this year, evident in how close the qualifying games were- many games had a one-point difference or came down to an extra time drop off.
The first group of Champions were crowned on day two of the titles and the under 14 Sutherland girls were undefeated for the whole tournament taking on teams from all across NSW over their two days of competition.
They won their division 3-2 against Port Macquarie in the grand final-the team was:
Candice Laffan, Chloe Liddell, Ella Hewitt (Captain), Charlee Hedley (Captain), Madison Marshall, Zoe Gilberd, Tully Rayner, Lili Zmisa, Keira Lampasona, Lily Chappel , Emma Gorman, Gemma Hanley , Alexi Eizenberg, Hayley Walsh, Tace Edwards, Leah Moffitt - Coaches Leanne and Paul Laffan Manager Louise Liddell.
Other local teams also tasted success, with Engadine winning the Boys 13 Division two final beating ACT 8-2.
In the senior divisions Sutherland won the 16 Girls Division two and the St George 17 Boys won Division one.
