The Cronulla beaches saw a couple of nice surfing days over the past week when the wind shifted around to the west and cleaned up the predominantly onshore weather patterns.
Monday dawned smaller but really clean until another southerly blew through churning things up and pushing the swell up through the day.
The really south swell (179 degrees) was predicted to peak this morning ,except it was bigger yesterday afternoon (4-5ft) with the strong onshore south winds not doing us any favours -if you can wait for the high tide it will help a lot.
The forecast ahead for Thursday and Friday look good as the wind swings to the west-sou-west until lunchtime with the swell sitting around the 3 ft mark.
Friday afternoon another southerly hits which will push the swell up, peaking on Saturday at 6-8ft on the south facing beaches.
The good news is the winds will back off on Sunday and Monday mornings giving surfers a perfect start to next week.
Yesterday saw day one of the 2021 Vissla Central Coast Pro and Sisstrevolution Central Coast Pro, men's and women's QS3000 event, which enjoyed a rising swell and good conditions for men's first few rounds.
The event opened with the appearance of high profile elite surf coach Glenn 'Micro' Hall (Umina, NSW) who surfed his first WSL heat in over five years and the powerful goofy footer showed all he has maintained the skills that saw him compete on the elite Championship Tour in 2015 and 2016.
"It was fun to put the jersey back on and compete again. It's about getting out there and doing my best, it's not about winning and it's a good opportunity while here at my home beach. Don't worry, this is not a comeback," laughed Hall after his three heat wins.
Cronulla's Jarvis Earle who is making his early run on the competitive ladder had a good couple of early heats and is surfing with the big boys in heat seven of the round of 64 today.
Nathan Hedge and Shane Holmes were other high profile surfers to appear at Avoca and a live broadcast will begin Thursday, March 4 ( streamed live on Surfing NSW)
