Burraneer Bay Public School was awarded a state government grant of $200,000 grant in 2019 after topping the vote in Cronulla electorate in the My Community Project program.
Nearly two years later, Cronulla MP and Attorney-General Mark Speakman has joined school community representatives to officially open the resurfaced field.

"It was terrific to see the students enjoying their revamped oval," Mr Speakman said.
"This project will benefit Burraneer Bay Public School students for many years to come."
Mr Speakman congratulated the school's P&C on preparing a strong application and strong online community support.

P&C president Craig Bulmer welcomed the funding and thanked Mr Speakman for his support.
The project was designed to also benefit before and after school care programs, local sporting groups and members of the wider community.
A total of 248 projects across NSW were funded through the My Community Project program, which was the first community initiative funded by the NSW Generations Fund.
It provided NSW residents with an opportunity to propose and vote for new projects in their local area.
The program has not been repeated. The government says it is reviewing options for future programs to be supported by the NSW Generations Fund.
