
A motor scooter rider - reportedly a food delivery worker - was seriously injured in a crash at Rockdale last night.
The accident occurred just before 9pm on Friday at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Rockdale Plaza Drive.
A police statement said the motor scooter rider, a 20-year-old man, sustained serious head injuries and was treated at the scene, before being taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition to undergo surgery.
The driver of a Toyota Rav 4, a woman, 22, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing and then to Kogarah Police Station for questioning.
The woman was released pending further inquiries.
ABC News reported the injured man was a food delivery rider and that a local resident rushed to his aid while neighbours called emergency services.
In November last year, UberEats delivery rider Bijoy Paul, 22, from Bangladesh was fatally injured in a crash at the corner of Princes Highway and Lister Avenue, Rockdale.
A state government taskforce has since issued draft guidelines to food delivery companies
Following the latest accident, police established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit.
