Ritchies Supa IGA supermarket at Taren Point set for $4.5M upgrade

A development application (DA) for internal and external alterations for the Parraweena Road store has been approved by Sutherland Shire Council.

External works will include a redesign of the front facade, construction of eight planter boxes, landscaping and installation of a new entry airlock.

The building envelope won't be expanded.

A new pedestrian zone, surrounded by bollards will be created at the entrance and the pedestrian crossing relocated. The trolley bay will also be moved.

Major internal changes will see the supermarket floor reconfigured, with the addition of a new food preparation area, trolley bay, checkout counter, self-service area, service desk, auto gates, wall-mounted display and new shopfront glazing and doors.

There will be "two new food and drinks areas on the supermarket floor, with no seating proposed". No further details were given.

Staff will have a new office and amenities.

The project will also include internal and external plant improvements.

The DA said the proposed works comprised an additional 28.8 square metres of gross floor area for the pedestrian entry airlock area.

"The new facade design will retain the building envelope of the existing structure and will not increase the overall height," the DA said.

"The design of the new facade comprises brick cladding, timber-look aluminium cladding to the existing fascia, non-structural steel columns in a black satin finish, aluminium powder coated glazed windows with black satin frames to comprise secondary entrances, and light grey rendered plain finishes to along the remainder of the facade."

Some new new landscaping will take place along the front facade.

The DA said the changes were not expected to create additional activity.

There would be only one extra parking space and no additional uses or significant increase in the intensity of the site.

The DA said the extra gross floor space was for the purpose of a pedestrian walkway and trolley storage, not additional "trading area".
