Police say they will have a significantly increased presence at licensed premises in the Shire and St George areas on the weekends to curb anti-social behaviour.
Superintendent Jason Box says with the reduction of the public health orders there has been a significant increase in people attending licensed premises.
"We are asking people to be mindful that now the public health orders are diminishing and life is returning to normal that they still should adhere to the responsible consumption of alcohol at pubs and clubs throughout the area, people should be mindful of their behaviour in all public places," he said.
"If at any time a member of the public feels their safety is compromised or they are concerned about the behaviour of others, I'd remind them not to hesitate to call the police.
"We will have a large profile at licensed premises and public places every weekend to ensure the safety of the community.
"We want to make sure the transition back to a pre COVID type times or less restrictive times is safe for everybody."
Superintendent Box said police are not out to ruin people's fun and only have the public's safety as a primary concern.
"We will be out and about to make sure everyone has a good time and enjoys the relaxed restrictions," he said.
"People enjoy themselves much more when those around them behave appropriately.
"We do ask that people behave in a socially appropriate manner because we will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour or violence at licensed premises or indeed anywhere in our community."
Police can give you directions if you are in a public place.
If you are intoxicated (affected by alcohol or drugs) in a public place police may tell you to leave an area for up to 6 hours if the police believe on reasonable grounds that your behaviour:
- is likely to cause injury to any other person or persons or damage to property, or,
- otherwise gives rise to a risk to public safety, or,
- is disorderly.
