Big waves are rolling in at Cronulla this morning, brought on by northerly winds that are predicted to strengthen today.
The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has issued a high seas forecast for the south eastern area for the next 24 hours, while the NSW Bureau of Meteorology says Sydney's coastal waters to Port Hacking could see gale force winds and powerful southerly swells in coming days.
The Sydney coastal waters forecast issued at 10.20am today said northerly winds were predicted to strengthen along the southern half of the coast today ahead of a cold front that will cross the coastal waters tomorrow.
It will bring a gusty west to southwesterly wind change before winds turn southerly during the latter part of the week.
Strong to gale force winds and large powerful southerly swells will be possible later in the week, as a vigorous southerly airstream develops along the coast in association with a deepening low pressure system near New Zealand.
