Queensland has declared the Bayside Council local government area a COVID-19 hotspot.
As the NSW cluster of the highly infectious Delta variant grows, the sunshine state has added more hotspot areas.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said as of 1am on Thursday, Queensland will close its borders to Bayside, Sydney, Woollahra, Canada Bay, Inner West and Randwick council areas.
Travellers from those local government areas will be barred from entering the state.
Premier Palaszczuk said Queenslanders returning from those hotspot areas would be placed in hotel quarantine.
Non-Queensland residents who have visited those areas will need an exemption to enter the state and need to quarantine.
