The Australian Labor party has called for the introduction of a cash incentive to encourage more Aussies to get the COVID jab in an effort to put an end to lockdowns.
However, St George and Sutherland Shire MPs have mixed opinions about the idea.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison recently announced that 70 per cent of Australia's eligible population would need to be vaccinated before debilitating COVID restrictions could begin to ease.
Heathcote MP Lee Evans (Liberal) said he did not think incentives would encourage higher vaccination rates.
"We are all in this together, we need to encourage everyone to get vaccinated," he said.
"Everyone should want to be vaccinated for their families and themselves. I don't think giving incentives will change that.
"The current advice from ATAGI is all individuals over the age of 18 should strongly consider AstraZeneca. However, if you are concerned discuss it with your GP."
Mr Evans said he did not think fully vaccinated people should be exempt from current lockdown restrictions.
"We need to concentrate on the health advice which is to consider AstraZeneca for all individuals over 18 which is freely available," he said.
"Please get vaccinated, it's the community's way out of lockdown.
"This is an insidious virus. Everyone is under threat the young, elderly, middle aged, male or female and it's up every one of us to do the right thing, follow Health Orders, get vaccinated and stay calm."
NSW Labor Leader and Kogarah MP Chris Minns said vaccines were the key to New South Wales getting out of lockdown and avoiding future ones.
"I know there is uncertainty and anxiety for many families, workers and businesses across Greater Sydney," he said.
"We have had 33 days in lockdown and now another four weeks.
"That's why we need as many jabs in arms as possible to keep our community safe, and it's been really pleasing to see reports of over 12,000 under 40s having received a vaccine this week.
"Labor is also calling for the NSW Government to roll out a public awareness campaign to promote and encourage people to get vaccinated and dispel some of the myths around Astra Zeneca.
"My message to the readers is to follow the health advice, get a vaccine as soon as you can. Together, we will get through this."
NSW Attorney General and Cronulla MP Mark Speakman said it was 'too early' to consider relaxing restrictions for fully vaccinated people.
"That wouldn't be fair while supplies of vaccine remain at the current levels. And it wouldn't be smart while the risk of spreading the disease remains so severe," he said.
"The greatest incentive to get vaccinated at the moment is the dramatically reduced risk of death and hospitalisation if vaccinated (whether AstraZeneca or Pfizer).
"There's also the incentive of likely reduced risk of transmitting the disease to family and colleagues. Other incentives must be closely considered as vaccination levels rise.
"NSW should certainly be allocated a greater supply of Pfizer."
Rockdale MP Steve Kamper, Oatley MP Mark Coure and Miranda MP Eleni Petinos did not respond to Leader's request for comment prior to deadline.
