Georges River Council has partnered with Sonic Healthcare Vaccinations and St John Ambulance to bring the Pfizer vaccine to 16-39 year-olds in the local community.
Officially opening on Monday, August 23, the vaccination hub will operate daily at Council's Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre from 8am to 6pm.
The hub is dedicated to residents aged 16-39 in the Local Government Areas of concern: Georges River, Bayside, Blacktown, Burwood, Campbelltown, Canterbury-Bankstown, Cumberland, Fairfield, Liverpool, Parramatta, Penrith and Strathfield.
Supporting the Federal and State governments' vaccination program, the hub will have the capacity to administer 1,000 vaccines a day, increasing to around 2,000 a day after the first few weeks.
Bookings are essential via www.sonicvaccinations.com.au.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said, "Council is committed to increasing opportunities for all of our community to get vaccinated, so we are pleased to be opening the Pfizer vaccination hub at our Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre."
To receive a vaccination, all eligible individuals must bring appropriate photo identification* and Medicare card to the appointment to confirm their identity and age.
Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre offers ample, free undercover parking as well as accessible facilities, including a wheelchair-accessible elevator.
Councillor Greene encourages the community to come forward to get vaccinated and said, "Getting vaccinated protects not only you, but also your family and loved ones.
"Clinical evidence shows the likelihood of household transmission is reduced by about 50% three to four weeks after vaccination. The vaccination also gives you around 90% protection against hospitalisation and death from COVID-19.
"I want to thank the Georges River community for joining the fight against COVID-19. Thank you for continuing to follow the stay-at-home orders, for getting tested and for getting jabbed.
"I wish to remind everyone that Council's Marana Auditorium in Hurstville remains a walk-in AstraZeneca vaccination clinic, open on weekdays between 10am and 4pm. No appointments are required and anyone aged 18 and over can receive the vaccine."
