St George Private Hospital at Kogarah says a staff member who tested positive to COVID-19 last week had been cleared and it was safe to attend the hospital for treatment.

"We have received confirmation from the NSW Public Health Unit that a staff member who originally tested positive to COVID-19 on Sunday, August 22, is actually a false positive case," a statement on the hospital's website says.
"The person has since recorded two negative test results. This means there are no close or casual contacts associated with this staff member, and all staff who were required to isolate are now able to return to work.
"We want to thank you for your patience during this challenging time and reassure you that we have comprehensive pandemic management plan in place to keep our patients, our staff and our community protected.
"It is safe to attend St George Private Hospital for your treatment."
The hospital previously said in a statement that it was notified on Sunday, August 22, "about a positive case of COVID-19 in a staff member who was asymptomatic".
The hospital said it was advised two days later that the staff member had since returned two negative tests, indicating the earlier test could be a "false positive result".
"All potential close and casual contacts were initially identified and isolated, with no other positive results recorded," the statement said.
"We are awaiting updated advice from the Public Health Unit as to any further actions required.
"We have a comprehensive pandemic management plan in place at our hospital, which allows us to respond quickly and safely as the situation in Sydney changes."
The 280-bed hospital is operated by Ramsay Health Care and includes theatres, patient rooms, maternity unit, oncology and coronary care units and private medical suites.
