In the first sign that green shoots of life are returning after the long lockdown, the popular Bayside Garden Centre has reopened for retail shopping.
Approximately 80,000 plants are available for sale, ranging from tube stocks to advanced trees, and including a wide variety of species, such as Murraya, Buxus, Camelia, Gardenia, Grevillea and many more.
The popular Bayside Garden Centre, formerly the Rockdale Community Nursery, was established in 1994, as a joint venture between Council and the Intellectual Disability Foundation of St George.
The venture was developed to enhance the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by offering both a vocation and a meaningful wage.
Under the terms of the agreement, the council and the disability foundation each get a quarter of the profit which goes back into community projects, while the other half is reinvested in the Garden Centre.
The garden centre has more than 2,000 loyalty customers and operates on a wholesale and retail basis, supplying plants to councils, landscapers, builders and the general public.
The staff at the Garden Centre are all trained in horticulture and the Centre offers growing, seed collection and propagation, delivery and technical advice.
The Bayside Garden Centre is located at 41 Beach Street, Kogarah and is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am - 3.45pm and 9.00am - 2.00pm on Saturday.
Visitors must observe Public Health Order requirements while they are there including checking in with their Service NSW QR code, wearing a mask and maintaining physical distancing.
In other developments, the council's libraries at Rockdale and Eastgardesn are open for Click & Collect from 10am to 3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

And more good news is on the way.
With the proposed easing of restrictions from Monday 11 October the council is planning for the reopening of our Community Recycling Drop Off Events.
The first one is tentatively scheduled for Saturday 16 October at the Community Recycling Drop Off (Botany Depot) with strict COVID-safe processes in place.
And if restrictions ease as planned, the Community Recycling Drop Off (Bexley Depot) open in November.
