Patrons will have to provide proof of vaccination or a registered medical exemption before they are allowed into reopened Sutherland Shire Council facilities from Monday October 18 - a week after lockdown ends.
The council chose the later date because arrangements for some facilities are being finalised and it is desired there be uniformity with the reopening.
From Monday October 18, libraries, Hazelhurst Arts Centre and gym facilities at Sutherland, Caringbah and Engadine leisure centres will reopen.
The council is taking no risks, even requiring people to be vaccinated when using outdoor pools when this is not stipulated in state government health orders.
This decision has yet to be fully explained, but it is understood one reason may be there are common entry and exit points for pools and other facilities for which vaccination is mandated.
"We wish to reassure all members of the public that council remains keenly focused on safeguarding the health of prospective patrons, our staff and the wider community as we work to reopen these facilities," a council spokesman said in a statement.
The spokesman said, in keeping with the government's roadmap for easing of COVID-19 restrictions:
- All patrons aged 16 years and over will be required to provide proof they have received two doses of a recognised COVID-19 vaccine or a registered medical exemption from vaccination before being granted entry to Council operated facilities.
- Preferred proof of vaccination will be via a digital or hard-copy of a COVID-19 digital certificate or an Immunisation History downloaded from the Medicare or MyGov websites.
- Density limits of 4m/person indoors will be in place and may limit the number of patrons able to enter facilities.
Updates on reopening arrangements and COVID safe requirements will be advised in the next week on the council website, facility websites and social media channels.
Prospective patrons can also make contact online if they require further details.
"We thank all members of the public in advance for their continued patience as we work to welcome our community back to our facilities, while ensuring we are providing a COVID safe environment," the spokesman said.
