The child travelled from Melbourne to Hobart on November 18 with his mother and tested positive on Sunday.
The child's mother did not have a valid GTG pass, and both were placed into hotel quarantine.
Both the child and his mother were transferred to the Community Case Management Facility on Sunday evening.
Deputy Director of Public Health Dr Julie Graham said the child was well and the risk to the wider community was considered low.
Hobart International Airport has been listed as a low-risk exposure site.

Anyone who was at Hobart Airport between 8.25pm and 9.50pm on Thursday, November 18 are required to monitor themselves for symptoms and get tested if symptoms develop.
It comes just over a month after Southern Tasmania was thrust into a snap lockdown after a COVID-positive traveller escaped quarantine.
