Transport for NSW has started survey and geotechnical investigations on the Oatley to Como Walkway to develop short and longer-term options for upgrade of the shared path.
The survey report is expected to include options for the path construction style; cost estimates; preparation of a community engagement program; the cost of providing lights across the Como railway bridge and the proposed new walkway.
Georges RIver Council undertook repair works from 25 October 2021 to the walkway.
This included the reconstruction of approximately 220 square-metres of asphalt path just before the bridge section of Oatley side of the walkway where tree root damage was identified as being a developing concern for pedestrians and cyclists.
Sutherland Shire Council recently completed the upgrade of the south side of the shared pathway between Cremona Road and Como Railway Bridge. This included building new retaining walls as well as widening and resurfacing the pathway.
Oatley MP Mark Coure has launched a petition to see the pathway upgraded so that it can better serve the needs of ther community.
"The pathway and the space are in desperate need of repair, renovation and revitalisation, so I am committed to delivering these upgrades to benefit the entire St George community," Mr Coure said.
"As part of the upgrades to the walkway, I also want to see seating and improved amenities installed to transform the site into a communal space for all to enjoy," he said.
"Please sign my petition to support my campaign to upgrade the Oatley-Como Bridge. We need an upgraded bridge so that local residents and their families can enjoy our fantastic natural environment."
