The Shire has four local residents and a team named as finalists for the prestigious 2021 NSW Sport Awards at CommBank Stadium on Monday, January 24.
The awards celebrate the achievements of NSW athletes, coaches, administrators and organisations across 12 categories.
The gala dinner will see Mark Webber (Motor Racing), Mick Fanning (Surfing), Naomi Flood (Surf Lifesaving and Kayaking), Kerri Pottharst (Beach Volleyball) and Harry Williams (Football) inducted into the NSW Hall of Champions, with Mark Ella (Rugby Union) elevated to Legend status.
Tokyo Paralympic cycling gold medallist, Amanda Reid (Menai) and Boccia bronze medallist, Daniel Michel (Cronulla), are finalists for Athlete of the Year with a Disability, while Tokyo Olympic diver Sam Fricker (Greenhills Beach) is a finalist for Young Athlete of the Year.
Touch Football Association CEO Dean Russell (Engadine) is a finalist for Administrator of the Year and the North Cronulla SLSA's Sea Turtles is a Team of the Year with a Disability finalist.
Sport NSW Chairperson, Carolyn Campbell, congratulated all category finalists and said they have provided a bright ray of sunshine, lifting spirits and providing instances of inspiration and motivation during the disruptive past two years.
"The finalists uphold NSW's well-earned reputation as Australia's premier sports state," she said. "They join a magnificent assembly of previous athletes, coaches, administrators and organisations who have been considered as finalists in the most prestigious sports Awards NSW offers."
