The new Bayside mayor, Christina Curry has reached out to residents via social media to find out what projects they would like to see happening in the local government area during the new term of council.
"What do you think should be prioritised?" Councillor Curry asked this week on her Facebook page.
She was soon left in no doubt of residents' priorities.
They voiced concerns with over-development, protection of parks and green spaces, parking and maintenance and roads.
A major issue was the leaking of sewage into the Botany Mill Pond which flows on to affect the water quality in Botany Bay.
"Protecting the remnant swamplands and not letting the Water Board dump sewerage into the Mill Pond," Tracey Cronley posted.
"I will continue to campaign to stop the sewage into Mill Pond," Cr Curry replied.
John Hefferan said, "I would like to see more finance given by council to road repairs."
Cr Curry called for a specific list that she could provide to council staff.
And while many comments concerned the former Botany local government area of Bayside, Cr Curry made sure that the entire LGA was included in her replies.
"Cleaning of Banksmeadow footpaths need to be prioritised," Craig Healey said.
"All shopping centres need to be prioritised," Cr Curry said.
Cr Curry said she is looking forward to working with Council to deliver on the expectations of our entire Bayside Community.
"I think social media is an excellent way to engage with our diverse community, and I would like to make sure everyone has an opportunity to provide feedback," she said.
"I want to get a good understanding of what is important to our residents, as this will help myself and my fellow councillors, as we make decisions on their behalf over the next two years."
Other priorities mentioned by residents:
"Oversight of developments and density. Community involvement in submissions. Protection of buildings reflective of Botany heritage. Maintenance of footpaths, parks. General greening of Bayside - and equitably. "- Judy Emrey.
"General upkeep of grounds and the garden maintenance that once brought a lot of colour to the area is talked about a lot." - John Muscat.
"Less bloody duplex being approved and built throughout the suburbs would be a wonderful start!!" - Craig V Segate.
"Green spaces, sustainability and our poor, suffering, natural environments." - Genevieve French.
"Allowing local residents to subdivide their houses instead of letting developers build hundreds of multi-storey units." - Darryl Mcdiarmid.
"Would really love to see that 'noise pollution camera' trial implemented along The Grand Parade and Bay Street." - Alex Anderson.
"Supporting community groups that support residents," Paul Fenner.
Councillor Curry said the dialogue will continue via all channels.
"I encourage residents, of all ages, to let me know what is important to them," she said.
"Not just through Facebook, but also by emailing me at mayor@bayside.nsw.gov.au or using the old fashion method of writing me a letter."
