St George residents and long-time Leader readers, Onfrio (Vic) and Celestina Vittorio share a special year in 2024 - their 60th wedding anniversary.
The Mortdale couple married on February 5, 1964 in a small village Fautari, Sicily, Italy. It was a double celebration - it was also Celestina's birthday. She turns 82 on her wedding anniversary. Vic turns 88 this year.
The couple migrated to Australia and operated a small corner fruit shop for 40 years at Penshurst. Vic became well-known in the community, as 'Vic and the red truck'. "He became a local identity as the fruit shop guy," their son John said.
"Their interest has always been family, being of Italian background. Dad is a typical migrant who came to Australia to devote his life to his family. They enjoy entertaining the family and cooking - they make their own pasta sauce."
They have three children and six grandchildren. John's daughter, who finished her HSC last year, also created an artwork of her grandfather Vic, and was accepted into ART EXPRESS.
