Debate over the sale of Chapel Street, Rockdale, has been deferred again after councillors voted not to discuss the matter at the Rockdale Council meeting on Wednesday night.
A report on the sale was due to be discussed during a confidential session but a procedural motion put forward by Liberal councillor Peter Poulos and seconded by Labor councillor Bill Saravinovski resulted in deferment.
The council has received a $48 million offer for its Chapel Street car park and housing site, significantly higher than the $35-40 million expected.
Money from the sale would be used to fund major projects including $9 million for Rockdale Library, $16.7 million for Rockdale City Aquatic Centre, $10 million for 165 new town centre parking spots and $8 million to replace failed infrastructure and improve community facilities.
Chapel Street is one of a number of projects that have been delayed after all six Liberal councillors and an independent failed to appear at recent council meetings.
The group of councillors have failed to attend six complete council meetings in recent months, either not attending or leaving before the end of the meeting.
All councillors attended Wednesday’s meeting. See more in the Leader.
