Re "National parks lift vehicle fees" (Leader, September 22).
As an avid national park visitor, I think a better way to provide the upkeep and improvement of park facilities would be to have a one-time low entry fee for locals to obtain (which could be similar to the annual pass). This would allow valuable cash flow to the parks and ease of entry on extremely busy weekends and holiday times, without the stress of lining up to pay.
This may also encourage locals to visit more often and at generate revenue that may not be collected on days when the booth is unmanned.
The restoration of the historic Audley Dance Hall has certainly boosted visitor numbers but I hesitate having to pay an entry fee each time I want to go there. If I had an annual pass I wouldn't give it another thought.
We are so lucky to have these wonderful places to visit in our own backyard. Put down the technology folks, it's the perfect time of year to discover the walking tracks and picnic grounds of your local national parks.
