Street artist Scott Marsh thinks people in Sutherland Shire will enjoy his mural of singer Shannon Noll.
“I think he is an Australian icon, and Cronulla is a great place for a bit of fun,” he said.
The 10 metre high image has captured much interest since Marsh began working on it on Tuesday. He was applying finishing touches on Friday.
The mural is on the side of the backpacker hostel at the corner of Kingsway and Wilbar Avenue, across from the BP petrol station.
Marsh, who was among artists who took part in the Walk the Walls festival at Caringbah, said the mural was a spur of the moment decision.
“I was online and found myself on Shannon Noll’s Facebook and saw a bunch of hilarious comments by trolls, who were just out for laughs,” he said.
“Shannon hasn’t deleted them so you can tell he is a good guy.
“Then I saw this image of him and I thought that would be great to paint in the shire.
“I put a call out on social media for a wall around the shire.
“A lot of people got back to me, and this one was the most suitable.”
And Nollsie has told MusicFeeds.com.au he was surprised when he first saw the mural.
“Having lived in the shire for over 15 years, I was shocked when I drove through Cronulla and saw my mug on a giant wall,” he said.
“Very flattered and blown away by the artist choosing to immortalise me.
“I might have to bring back the flavour savour! With my tour kicking off tonight in Sydney it was a cool way to start the tour.”

A 10 metre high mural of singer Shannon Noll has upstaged the painting of a giant pink dolphin wearing sunglasses at Cronulla.
The new mural has been painted on the wall of the backpackers hostel building at the corner of Kingsway and Wilbar Avenue, across from the BP petrol station.
The building is due to be demolished within the next 18 months to make way for a six-storey apartment block.
There was an enormous reaction after the new art work was posted on the Leader’s Facebook page on Thursday evening.
The questions, “Why Shannon Noll?” and “Why Cronulla” have yet to be answered.
Among the many amusing comments was, “When asked what to paint on the wall, did Shannon ask ‘What about me?’"
And, on the same theme, “Insert the Dolphin one looking longingly at Shannon saying ‘What about me?’
Other comments included:
- Looks awesome! And since he lives locally, why not?
- Couldn’t think of a better mural.
- I’m 100% for this.
- About time a mural was made in honour of this legend.
- Cronulla and Condoblin are sister cities, he.
- More accidents on that corner.
- The shire is getting right behind Nollsy.
Meanwhile, renowned street artist Mulga completed the mural of the giant pink dolphin in Cronulla mall on Thursday.
Joel Moore, aka Mulga, approached the owner of the building, which houses the IGA supermarket and JD’s, with the idea.
