Kurnell cafe Cook has won council approval to establish a self-serve dog wash facility for patrons.
The foodies hot spot has operated from a vintage Airstream food van at 306- 308 Prince Charles Parade, opposite Silver Beach, since 2017.
A substantial expansion has been approved by Sutherland Shire Council.
Development consent was given for construction of a timber frame cabana, with timber cladding, and colour bond skillion roof, a temporary marquee, extended trading hours on New Year's Eve, upgrade works to the kiosk and a self-serve dog wash facility.
The development application (DA) submitted the dog wash facility complied with the local environmental plan
"The site lends itself well to this purpose as it is directly across from a dog friendly beach,' the DA said.
On the site at present are a food vending van, kiosk, container and toilet building.
Cook cafe owner Tanya Tozzi told the Leader in 2018, "I wanted to create a casual space for the whole family, somewhere to be social, grab a good coffee or linger with friends over a leisurely lunch".
The council limited DA consent for five years, after which the performance of the cafe will be reviewed.
While approval was given for extended hours on New Year's Eve, a 10 pm lockout will apply.
No new patrons will be admitted after 10 pm, all must pre-book and eat a full meal.
Silver Beach attracts dog owners from a wide area of Sydney.
In September, 2018, the council responded to a campaign by dog owners and agreed to consider allowing dogs on leads to be walked on part of Silver Beach at certain times.
Council staff were asked to prepare a report on options for timed or seasonal leashed dog walking.
However, the council stipulated there would be no expansion of the existing off-leash area on Silver Beach, and the exclusion of dogs on leashes in the beachfront adjacent to the swimming baths would continue.
The report has not yet come to a council meeting for consideration.
