Signs not the solution
I was in the public gallery during the last Rockdale Council meeting discussion on prohibiting swimming along the shore of Dolls Point.
I also attended the community meeting last year organised by the council and the surf life saving organisation as a response to the drowning of a child.
If you look at the published facts of why Australian children drown at home, on a beach or elsewhere you will come to the conclusion that prohibiting swimming signs will not prevent neglect of the child or people ignoring signs and their responsibilities.
Further, how is Rockdale Council going to enforce its prohibition and including after 6pm when rangers have stopped work?
