ST George and Sutherland Shire netball associations have capped off a stellar 2014 season as seven individuals have been recognised by NSW Netball for their achievements.
Netball NSW held its 2014 state dinner last Saturday night at Allphones Arena with Kaitlyn Bryce from St George being named State League Player of the Year [Nance Kenny OAM Medal] and the shire's Vicki Jansen taking home the 2014 Margaret Corbett OAM State League Coach of the Year award.
The 2014 season was Bryce's first with St George after she spent last year in Canberra on an AIS scholarship.
Having previously played with the Sutherland club for two seasons in 2011 and 2012 she knows how strong netball is in Sydney's southern suburbs.
"We are fortunate enough to have a high calibre of players across the associations," Bryce said.
"It is evident how much the girls love to play and how much we push each other."
After a successful return to the state league competition Bryce is now in the midst of trialling for the NSW Under-21 side and as a former state representative in 2013 she hopes to make a return to the state's top team this year.
For Jansen, being named the State League Coach of the Year capped off a golden 2014.
As coach of Sutherland's Division 2 side she steered her team to a 10-goal Grand Final victory over Eastwood Ryde to be crowned the 2014 Champions.
Jansen has been coaching at Sutherland Shire netball for four years and said she is honoured to have been involved with the association.
"To end up winning the comp was a wonderful achievement," she said.
Can St George and Sutherland Shire netball associations top their 2014 award winning effort next year?
