Orders of Australia (AO)
Professor Barry Allen:
In 2013, the International Organisation of Medical Physics named cancer scientist Barry Allen, 75, of Yowie Bay, one of the world’s 50 top medical physicists.
Professor Allen has been named an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the general division for his distinguished service to biomedical physics, especially to radiation oncology and the development of innovate methods of cancer treatment.
Professor Allen was a principal research scientist at the St George Cancer Care Centre between 1994 and 2012.
Before that, he was chief research scientist at ANSTO.

Professor John Boldeman:
Professor Boldeman of Cronulla was awarded an AO for distinguished service to nuclear science and technology, especially through the design and construction of the Australian synchrotron particle accelerator and as a mentor of young scientists.
Professor Boldeman is the author of more than 250 research papers in nuclear physics including nuclear reactor systems and particle accelerator systems.

Australian Medal (AM)
Professor Ian Harris:
If anyone knows their way around the musculoskeletal system, it is Ian Harris.
Professor Harris, of Caringbah, has been named a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for his significant service to medicine, especially in the field of orthopedics as as a clinician.
The AM also honours his significant service to education and research, and to professional bodies.

Order of Australia Medals (OAM)
Craig Alexander:
Craig Alexander believes the smartest thing he ever did in his career was surround himself with good people.
Alexander, 41, is now a holder of a Medal of the Order of Australia in the general division for service to sport as a triathlete and to the community.
The South Caringbah man is a three-time Ironman World Champion, two-time Half Ironman World Champion and claimed his 10th Australian title earlier this year.

Dr Colin Macarthur:
The former Sutherland Hospital medical superintendent, Colin MacArthur has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his service to medicine as a clinician and to medical administration.
Dr Macarthur , of Sylvania,has been active in health system reform in the South Western Sydney Local Health District since before 2000 and is co-chair of its electronic medical records clinical reference group.

Edgar Ford:
Edgar Ford of Engadine is a former officer commanding the Sutherland Shire Squadron of the Air League. He has been administration commissioner, NSW Boys Group, since the mid-1990s. Mr Ford was also recognised for his many years of work at Engadine Uniting Church.

Norma Thorburn:
When she received the letter saying she was being awarded the Order of Australia medal, Norma Thorburn’s first reaction was disbelief.
Mrs Thorburn of Kogarah was recognised for service to Kogarah region through a range of volunteer roles including president and founder, Kogarah Senior Computers Club, since 1999.
She was the secretary, Kogarah Carlton Senior Citizens Association, 1997-2009, and secretary, Kogarah Citizens Australia Day Committee, 1990-1998.

Irene Anestis:
A life dedicated to the Greek community in NSW has resulted in Irene Anestis of Bardwell Park being awarded the Order of Australia Medal.
She is a foundation member, IPPOCRATES (Ippokratis) Chapter, Australian Hellenic Education Progressive Association, since 2007, and has been an AHEPA member for 30 years.
She was the founding board member in 1994 of the Greek Community Home for the Aged, Greek Orthodox Community of NSW Ltd.
She has been the honorary life president of the Sydney Olympic Soccer Football Club Ladies Committee since 1996 and a member since 1985.

Australian Police Medal
David Donohue:
St George police commander David Donohue has been awarded the Australian Police Medal .
He joined the force as a trainee in 1988 and worked at stations in Sydney’s eastern suburbs before he became a detective in 1994.
He was stationed at Sutherland before he became the commander at St George.
